Rep Classifications Due July 2

News Image

Report your desired classification to your division commissioner and/or NCOBA Director by July 2.

The time has come for all our teams to submit their information for classifications to enter into the provincial Rep playoff tournaments (listed here: https://www.playoba.ca/2024-rep-provincial-tournament-hosts). Classifications are a declaration of the level (A, AA, or AAA) that a team will apply to compete at.

Depending on the division and the number of teams that classify, there may be one or two berths for NCOBA teams to attend each provincial tournament.  Based on household counts in our local associations, the lowest level that any of our teams are able to classify at is at the A level.  Most teams tend to request classification at this level.  However, teams that have a strong winning record in their local loops, and/or have done well at OBA Rep tournaments (e.g. finalist in a tournament) will often be classified at the AA level.

If a team with a very strong record nonetheless believes that they should be classified at the A level, they may submit a request to classify at this level along with a brief explanation for this request.

Depending on the record, there is a possibility it will be reassigned by NCOBA or Baseball Ontario.  Any team that has participated in a AAA tournament is automatically classified as a AAA team.  Since Baseball Ontario will only use records of games that were recorded in PitchCount, the information that should be used for all teams when they  consider their records for classification should only include games from PitchCount.  (The exception to this rule is 9U, since game records are not kept in Pitch Count for this division.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: If a team does not intend to participate in the provincial playoffs then they should indicate that they do not wish to classify.  If a team applies for classification and they are selected to represent NCOBA at the provincial playoffs then they must attend the playoffs, or a $500 fine will be levied against the team by Baseball Ontario.  If a coach knows that many players on their team will not be available during the provincial tournament (Labour day weekend for all teams except for 9U (Aug 23 – 25), 18U (Aug 16 – 18), 22U (Aug 9 -  11)) that team should indicate that they do not wish to be classified.

Please send me (your Commissioner) a response to this email with the following information:

  • Team name (as it appears in PitchCount)
  • Team code (OBA roster number as it appears in PitchCount)
  • Classification request (A, AA, AAA or "Not Classifying")
  • Justification of classification request (optional)

If your team is classifying, please also send this information:

  • Current record for league games (wins-losses-ties for all league games that are entered into pitchcount)
  • Tourney record (wins-losses-ties for all OBA rep tournament games that are entered into pitchcount)
  • Note: 9U team records are not in pitchcount – just send your records as you have recorded them.
